Stingray to offer a $5,000 prize at the Festival international de jazz de Montréal
Montreal, June 4, 2019 – Stingray (TSX: RAY A, RAY B), a leading music, media, and technology company, and proud partner of the 40th edition of the Festival international de jazz de Montréal, announced today that it will present a $5,000 Stingray Rising Stars prize on June 26, 2019, to a university-level jazz student who considers themselves part of a visible minority. The recipient will have distinguished themselves by their talent as a composer, musician, and arranger. This year, Stingray associates its Rising Stars program with the Oliver Jones Award, presented for the first time at the Festival international de jazz de Montréal.
In addition, the Stingray team has created, again this year, the Festival international de jazz de Montréal 2019 channel, now available on the Stingray Music mobile app and web player.
- Launched in 1998, the Stingray Rising Stars program sets out to discover, encourage, promote, and champion new up-and-coming Canadian artists
- Stingray Rising Star awards have been given out at the FIJM for more than ten years.
- Previous winners include: Quintette Daniel Thouin (2002), Marianne Trudel Quintet (2007), Vincent Gagnon (2009), Darren Sigesmund (2010), John Roney (2011), and Jonathan Turgeon Trio (2018).
